THE BACKSTORY OF THIS SCULPTURE
Furyous was actually inspired by a horse after the Wyndy sculpture was halfway finished! The name Wycked was left in place as Furyous has most of the body left very similarly intact (the neck and head and tail were completely redone). During the sculpting of Wyndy Morgen found an Arabian horse in her shopping a few states away. Since the ground in NC is traditionally slick clay-slippery from Dec through March and at nearly 50 Morgen wasn’t sure she was up to the challenge of riding ex racehorses anymore, 🙂 … she sent him to a closer trainer and international competitor used to riding and assessing horses and their suitability for archery. Elizabeth (in red) worked slowly with him since he had some foundation holes in his training.
After a few months though he competed very confidently in TVA archery competition with both Morgen (pink arrows below) and Elizabeth (red sweatshirt below) riding. He carried Elizabeth won the advanced overall division going steadily along for her at the slow speeds Morgen requested he be kept to (she’s a beginner archer and not a fast shooter). And Tinnan to scored a very respectable fourth Internationally (the IHAA postal Jan/Feb they went very slow or it would have been even higher probably, she’s got aim as well as good horse sense!) on that on that month’s virtual competition.
Bottom line is that Fury is actually NOT a Furyous horse. He is a sensitive Arabian true to his Russian breeding that made him a solid faithful endurance race horse for many years. Morgen brought him home to NC in Feb of 2021 and has been letting him slowly chill out and relax some. He’s a very laid back horse who LOVES to play and is quit sensitive. She says it all the time but, the sculptor wants it known that she has no problem with resin owners jokingly calling him Wycked Itchy to help differentiate him from the original resin Wyndy. 😉
